Together with 2 friends we are helping the YWAM team in Iasi this week. We polishe the wood on the outside walls of the ministry center, exercise our muscles and our arms are sore :-) We enjoy the hospitality of the team here and having meals outside in the shade of the walnut tree. Tuesday it rained and the weather is a bit coller now, which is great! This is the base with the most flowers from YWAM Romania and it’s wonderful to relax outside in the evenings! But the days look like in the pictures |

In the last couple of weeks some friends came to enjoy the Black Sea and stayed at “our place” with a seaview (the place that our friends were very gracious to let us use for free) :-) Once again we were reminded that it’s great to create memories with the people we love, because at the end of the day no matter how many things and projects we are involved in, the relationships are the most important gift God gave us :-)
May-June * the work for getting the approvals for the Girls’ Night Shelter continues * launching YWAM Romania publishing house www.editurakairos.ro * the coffee house is continuing the evenings with movies, live music, homemade international cookies * the homeless people ministry is going well
July * hosting a youth team from Holland * go to YWAM Medias (9 hours away from Constanta by car) to help organize a festival for youth (conference that will end with youth groups going on missions trips in Romania and outside of our country)
August * host a team from YWAM England for 2 weeks * a team from a church from the US takes the kids from the Day Center on a camp for a week in the mountains in Romania * we’ll go to YWAM Iasi (10 hours away by train) to help with some practical work * have a week off yepppe!!! :-)
September * host a team from Australia * attend YWAM Romania staff conference |

Cleaning the houses, wearing new clothes, the ritual bath before going to church, all these are supposed to mark a new beginning. After a long fast - the Lent, tables full with all sorts of good dishes and brightened up with beautiful painted eggs create a festive atmosphere. Children are the happiest of all looking for their gifts and colored eggs in the newly grown grass.
In many villages and small towns there is an old tradition in this particular night. The whole family goes to the church together, the head of the family carrying a basket full of colored eggs, pasca, cozonac, fresh cheese, dry basil, incense, a bottle of wine and candles. After the religious ceremony, when the bells are singing with joy the Resurrection, the priest come out of the church and bless the community and their baskets saying all the time “Christ has risen” and everyone respond as a single voice: “He has truly risen”. The candles are burning, the air is full of magic and it is a general happiness everywhere.
The clinking of colored eggs is a beautiful tradition all over the country. In many regions, in the first day family members or friends must clink eggs “top to top”, in the second day “top to bottom” and in the third day “bottom to bottom”. Always the oldest man (woman) in the group will begin the ceremony by choosing a partner. The person who is in action must say “Christ has risen” and the one who is waiting with the egg in his hand must reply immediately “He truly has risen”. |

The 3 months in Norway were great and we reached our goal to “watch & learn” at the YWAM base in Grimerud!
We enjoy being home!!!!!!!!!! For the 4th time since we got married 5 months ago! October 20th we flew from Oslo, Norway into Bulgaria and a friend drove from Constanta to pick us up (2 hours away).
October 22nd our life at YWAM Constanta started! Yeppeee!! Life in the base administration and DTS (Alina) and at the national office and base communication (Alex) is very busy and full of adventure! Getting approvals to open up a house for girls that live on the street or in abusive families or getting a good deal for the internet system at the base from different companies.. it’s never boring and need to go through planes A, B, C, D… to make it work!
Some friends were VERY generous and offered us to live in their apartment for free until next summer! It’s about 200 feet by the sea, at the 5th floor (no elevator!), 5 minutes away walking from the base and is got an indoor fire place! :-) We counted the stairs up to our floor.. there are 70! :-)
We are part of a team of 14 staff from 5 nations :-)
Our ministries are: 1. Discipleship Training School 2. Day care center for street children 3. New Wine Cafe 4. Homeless people ministry 5. Hosting short term teams
To be opened soon: the girls’ house for girls that live on the street or live in abusive families.
Read more about our ministries in Constanta at: www.ywamconstanta.ro (Alex is still working on it) |

At the end of August we got back to Grimerud and to work. We attend the weekly base leadership meetings; fellowship times; staff meeting and departments’ meetings. It’s great to watch and learn from people with over 30 years of experience in serving the Lord!
Alex is keeping up printing materials for YWAM Romania and Alina translates documents into Romanian and helps with painting the laundry and some rooms in the basement of the main building. Some days Alex helps out on the roof (replacing the old tile and fixing the isolation). We made some new friends too :-)
Alina is learning how to bake bread and Alex discovered he likes going fishing.
We miss home and Romanian soup… we are looking forward going to YWAM Constanta in the middle of October and settle down as a family. |

One day at the end of our honey moon we tried waterskiing..
It was awesome! We definitely need more training to ride on top of the water and not sink but we had so much fun doing it for the first time :-) |

We made it safely to YWAM Grimerud and settled in.
After the GoFest (August 9-12) youth festival where over 900 people came together for worship, teaching and fellowship we went to the West side of Norway.
Some friends gave us a ride to Bergen (8 hours driving and beautiful country side) and enjoyed their hospitality for a couple of days.
Then we went to Karmoy (beautiful island) where we enjoyed our honey week #2 at a vacation house by the beach at the North Sea of some friends of ours! We are very grateful for this wedding gift!!!
